Combined with its first €91 million fund, the Paris- and New York-based firm says it is now the largest dedicated quantum investor globally by assets under management.
Launched in 2018, Quantonation has backed 27 companies in more than ten countries, focusing on technologies rooted in advanced physics, from quantum computing to secure communications and sensing.
Why now? Quantum computing is experiencing an investment surge, driven by its promise of breakthrough computational power despite major technical and economic hurdles.
Governments and companies, including Nvidia, are increasing research spending, and a new wave of quantum firms is expected to approach public markets this year. Quantonation says it aims to help move technologies from the lab to commercial use.
What could go wrong? Practical quantum computers and widespread applications remain years away. The sector faces significant physics, engineering, and cost barriers that could delay returns. Investor enthusiasm may also outpace real-world progress.
The signal: Venture capital is pushing further into hard science as investors look beyond software to foundational technologies.
Quantonation’s expanded fund underscores rising conviction that quantum and physics-based startups could drive the next industrial wave.
