Waspito Accelerates Healthcare Access in Africa with Tech-Driven Clinics
Waspito, a healthtech startup based in Cameroon, is scaling a mobile-first approach to primary care across underserved regions in Africa. Through its platform, users can access video consultations with certified doctors, order lab tests, receive prescriptions, and have medications delivered—all without visiting a clinic.
The company combines telemedicine with an on-the-ground network of partner pharmacies, labs, and nurses to serve patients in both urban and remote settings. In countries like Ivory Coast, Waspito has even embedded mini-clinics within national postal service branches, offering physical touchpoints to complement its digital model.
Following a $2.5 million seed extension backed by investors such as Newtown Partners (via DP World’s Innovation Venture Fund), Saviu Ventures, AAIC Investment, Health54, and Axian Ventures, Waspito is planning to expand into Senegal and Gabon. The company previously raised $2.7 million and now serves over 650,000 users with nearly 1,000 doctors onboarded.
As part of its regional strategy, Waspito has also begun collaborating with public health authorities in Egypt. A recent visit by CEO Jean Lobe Lobe included meetings with Egyptian officials to explore medical procurement and innovation models. These insights could help inform Waspito’s future operations and infrastructure development in new markets.
Waspito’s long-term vision is to deliver accessible, affordable healthcare to millions across Francophone Africa—by combining virtual care with community-level infrastructure and logistics.
