Theta Labs is building a decentralised GPU cloud for AI and media, anchored by Theta EdgeCloud — a hybrid platform that combines a network of over 30,000 community-operated edge nodes with enterprise-grade GPUs to run AI training, inference and video rendering. The company reports pricing 50-70% below traditional cloud services.
GPU compute is the bottleneck of the AI era, and centralised cloud costs are pushing developers and researchers to look for cheaper capacity. A DePIN model that taps idle GPU power directly targets that squeeze.
Theta's roots trace back to the high costs of video delivery its network was originally designed to solve, before broadening from decentralised streaming into general GPU compute. The company says its infrastructure now serves clients from academic institutions to professional sports teams.
The venture is led by founder Sebastian Quintero, building on Theta's existing enterprise validator and governance council, which includes Google, Samsung, Sony and CAA. Those relationships give an early network few infrastructure startups can claim.
