The company
Pelagic Systems builds a control and calibration software stack for experimental quantum computing hardware, combining a context-aware data architecture, a reusable experiment framework, FPGA-based real-time control and QCVV tools for characterising processor performance. The platform targets research groups and companies that build and test quantum hardware.
Quantum processors drift constantly — qubit frequencies, lifetimes and readout parameters shift over time — so devices need frequent recalibration, and today much of that analysis bottlenecks on a host CPU. By moving estimation and decision-making onto the controller's FPGA, Pelagic says a T1 calibration that took around 250 ms with host-mediated feedback can run in about 10 ms.
The company emerged in October 2026 as a spinout from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the founding team did hands-on research on superconducting qubits.
The five-person founding team worked directly on superconducting qubit research at NQCP, and the product builds on their published work on millisecond-scale calibration and benchmarking — so the speed claims come from their own lab, not a pitch deck.
