01 · Background

Who PFR Ventures is.

Historical Background: PFR Ventures is the investment arm of the Polish Development Fund (Polski Fundusz Rozwoju S.A.), a state-owned financial group established in 2016 to support the country's economic and social development. The firm was established to manage a fund-of-funds model, channeling capital into the local private equity and venture capital markets.
Source of Capital: PFR Ventures is financed through a combination of public and private sources. A significant portion of its capital originates from European Union funds, specifically the "Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020". The Government of Poland, either directly or through the Polish Development Fund and the Polish Development Bank (BGK), is a primary investor. The firm's model also involves co-investing alongside private investors, business angels, and corporations.
Major Events: In June 2024, the Supervisory Board of PFR Ventures appointed a new Management Board for the company.
Allocation Strategy: The firm operates as a fund-of-funds manager, investing capital into other venture capital and private equity funds rather than directly into companies. Its mandate is to finance innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland across various growth stages, from early-stage to growth equity.
