Clément Delangue
Angel investor · Hugging Face CEO
Clément Delangue is a French entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of Hugging Face, which he started in 2016 in New York with Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf. Originally a teen-focused chatbot app, the company pivoted to become the leading platform and “model hub” for sharing open-source machine-learning models and datasets, anchored by its widely used Transformers library.
Under Delangue, Hugging Face has become central infrastructure for the open-source AI ecosystem — the default place developers publish, discover and run models — and has raised well over $160M from investors including Sequoia, Coatue, Lux Capital and Salesforce, reaching a multibillion-dollar valuation. He has become one of the most visible advocates for open, community-driven AI. Today the platform hosts millions of models, datasets and interactive demos used by developers and researchers worldwide. Often described as the “GitHub of machine learning,” Hugging Face has turned model-sharing into a standard part of the AI development workflow.
Delangue is also one of the most active operator-angels in AI, with public trackers documenting dozens of investments concentrated in the community building on Hugging Face. Dealroom tracks his investments in Perplexity and the AI-finance startup Basis, among others. His angel activity reflects a strategic position at the centre of the open-source AI movement.
