Established in 2001 by co-founders Brett Brinton, Chris Oliver, and William Brinton, Zonar Systems emerged from the transportation industry with a clear focus on enhancing vehicle safety and efficiency. The company caters to a diverse client base, including commercial trucking fleets, pupil transportation, and vocational and transit operations across North America. Its business model is centered on a combination of hardware sales and recurring revenue from software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscriptions for its data and analytics platforms.

The company's flagship offering is an Electronic Verified Inspection Reporting (EVIR) system, a patented technology that digitizes the pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection process. This system utilizes RFID tags placed at critical checkpoints on a vehicle, which drivers scan with a handheld device to ensure a thorough and verifiable inspection, moving beyond traditional paper-based methods.
