About Xanodyne

Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, Inc. operated as an integrated specialty pharmaceutical company, primarily focusing on the development and commercialization of products for pain management and women's healthcare in the United States. The company was incorporated in Delaware in May 2000, initially as UBE Pharmaceuticals, Inc., changing its name to Xanodyne Pharmacal, Inc. in June 2001, and finally to Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in February 2004. Active operations commenced in 2001.

The company's business model was centered on acquiring, developing, and marketing a portfolio of pharmaceutical products. A key strategy was to use revenue from its marketed products to fund the development of its pipeline candidates. Xanodyne made strategic acquisitions to build its portfolio, including a merger with Integrity Pharmaceutical Corporation in 2004 to obtain the Duet product line of prenatal vitamins, and the acquisition of aaiPharma's pharmaceutical assets in 2005. The company's revenue streams were derived from the sales of its prescription drugs and prenatal vitamins. Its client base consisted of healthcare providers, specifically targeting high-prescribing pain specialists and women's healthcare physicians.

Significant products in Xanodyne's portfolio included Zipsor, a liquid-filled capsule formulation of diclofenac potassium for mild to moderate acute pain, which received FDA approval in June 2009. Another key product was Lysteda (tranexamic acid), a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding, which was also approved by the FDA. The company also marketed Darvon and Darvocet (propoxyphene), pain medications that were later withdrawn from the market in 2010 at the FDA's request due to heart-related safety concerns. Subsequently, the company sold the rights to its pain medication Roxicodone to Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals in August 2012 as it appeared to be winding down operations.
