Voya Energy
Carbon-free energy generation from recycled metal fuels.
About Voya Energy
Voya Energy, Inc. is a California-based cleantech company founded in 2025, specializing in a new category of energy generation and delivery systems that are independent of the traditional electrical grid. The company is developing technology to convert recycled metals into an energy-dense, safe, and durable carbon-free fuel. This process unlocks the chemical energy stored in metals, which can then be used to generate electricity anywhere, offering a solution for reliable power in areas with limited or no grid access.
The company's public launch in November 2025 was accompanied by the announcement of a $13 million seed funding round. The round was led by founding investor Energy Impact Partners (EIP) and included participation from other notable investors such as Founders Fund, 8090 Industries, IQT, Trust Ventures, SV Angel, and Liquid 2 Ventures. These funds are intended to accelerate the development of Voya's metal fuel technology and expand its production capacity.
Voya's founding team consists of veterans from the energy and transportation sectors. CEO Richard Wang was previously the founder and CEO of battery technology company Cuberg, which was acquired by Northvolt. Chief Commercial Officer Matt Horton has held CEO roles at Voltera and Propel Fuels and was EVP of Energy & Charging at Rivian. Chief Technology Officer Steven Kaye has 20 years of experience in developing new energy storage materials and devices and previously served as CTO at Our Next Energy.
The business model is centered on the sale of its metal fuel technologies and energy generation devices. Voya targets clients across the energy, transportation, and clean technology sectors, including businesses and government entities, often through long-term contracts for fuel supplies. By creating a transportable, solid fuel from recycled materials, Voya aims to replace traditional diesel generators and provide a scalable solution for distributed energy, addressing the rising global demand for clean and resilient power.
