About VIPstore
VIPstore, also known as Jiapin.com, was an e-commerce platform focused on the luxury goods market in China. Founded in 2009 by Hongjie (Robert) Yang, the company established its headquarters in Beijing and operated with a global supply chain that included branches in Los Angeles and Paris. The business model centered on offering discounted apparel, accessories, watches, and cosmetics from a wide range of international high-end brands directly to Chinese consumers. Jiapin.com claimed to have direct authorization to sell products from over 500 international luxury brands.
The company's primary target was online shoppers in China seeking access to genuine luxury items. It functioned as an online retailer, generating revenue through the direct sale of goods. The platform provided a curated selection of products, including clothes, shoes, bags, and watches, competing in a crowded market against other major players. To support its growth, Jiapin.com secured a total of $15 million in funding over two rounds. Notable investors included Intel Capital, Macy's, Mountain Partners, and Taishan Angel. A significant investment of $15 million in a Series D round in June 2012 involved a strategic partnership with U.S. retailer Macy's to establish a joint online presence.
Despite its initial funding and strategic partnerships, Jiapin.com faced considerable challenges. In July 2012, the company underwent a significant operational restructuring, which included laying off a substantial portion of its workforce. The founder, referred to as CEO Yang Peifeng in some reports, stated this was a strategic move to improve efficiency and strengthen its overseas buying teams. However, the company ultimately ceased operations and is now considered deadpooled.
