Established in 2010, TouchNetix is a fabless semiconductor and systems company engineering next-generation human-machine interface (HMI) solutions. The company was founded by a team with extensive experience from Atmel Corporation's Touch Technology and AVR Microcontroller Products Groups, where they were instrumental in developing the maXTouch™ touchscreen driver IC product lines. This background in capacitive touch and microcontroller technology provided the foundation for TouchNetix's strategic focus. One of the founders, Chris Ard, brought experience from materials science and the optical telecoms sector, which shaped the company's direction after identifying a market opportunity in capacitive sensing.

TouchNetix operates in the application-specific semiconductor market, serving clients primarily in the automotive, industrial, medical, and appliance sectors. The core of TouchNetix's offering is the aXiom™ user interface controller chip family. This technology was developed specifically to overcome the performance limitations of consumer-grade controllers in demanding environments like automotive and industrial settings. A key differentiator is its high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 80dB, which is significantly higher than the typical 50-55dB of competing products. This enables reliable touch performance even when the user is wearing gloves or when the screen is wet. The aXiom product line supports a range of advanced features on a single chip, including traditional 2D multi-touch, force sensing that can detect displacement of less than 10 micrometers, and 3D touchless interactions like hover and proximity gestures up to 10cm from the surface. This allows for the implementation of 'Air Swipe' and 'Air Touch' functionalities, enhancing safety and user experience, particularly in public or sterile environments. The technology supports non-standard display formats and is designed for harsh conditions with a wide operating temperature range and automotive-grade qualification (AEC-Q100).
