About ThinkLabs AI

ThinkLabs AI, Inc. is a specialized artificial intelligence company that develops solutions for electric utilities and grid operators to manage the increasing complexity of the energy system. The company was incubated within and launched from GE Vernova in May 2024. It was founded by Josh Wong, who serves as the CEO. Josh Wong has over 20 years of experience in clean technology, including grid modernization, solar, storage, and microgrids. A power systems engineer by training, he previously founded smart-grid software startup Opus One Solutions, which was acquired by General Electric (GE) in 2022. Following the acquisition, Wong served as General Manager of Grid Orchestration at GE Vernova, where the incubation effort for ThinkLabs began. He left GE Vernova to lead ThinkLabs as an independent company. ThinkLabs develops physics-informed AI digital twins and operational agents designed to automate and accelerate complex workflows for grid planners and operators. Its core product, the ThinkLabs Copilot, is a digital assistant that creates a physics-based simulation of the power grid. This allows utilities to run millions of scenarios in minutes, a process that traditionally took weeks or months. The platform can be used for advanced grid analyses, including real-time state estimation, contingency management, power flow studies, and interconnection automation, with a reported accuracy of over 99.7% for power flow calculations. The company's business model targets utilities and grid operators, helping them to improve decision-making, reduce costs, and maintain grid reliability amidst challenges like the integration of renewable energy sources, the rise of data centers, and an aging workforce. The company's launch was supported by a $5 million seed funding round co-led by Powerhouse Ventures and Active Impact Investments, with GE Vernova also participating as an investor and strategic partner. In March 2026, ThinkLabs AI announced it had closed a $28 million Series A financing round led by Energy Impact Partners, with participation from NVentures (NVIDIA's venture arm) and Edison International, among other new and existing investors. The company is working with more than 10 utilities and has formed partnerships with entities like Southern California Edison, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and EPRI.
