TerraForm Global, Inc. operates as a globally diversified renewable energy company. The company functions as a holding company that owns and operates a portfolio of long-term contracted solar and wind power plants across various international markets. Historically, TerraForm Global's portfolio included solar and wind assets in Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, and Uruguay, with a total net capacity of 916.4 megawatts as of late 2016. The business model is centered on generating stable cash flows through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with creditworthy counterparties.

In a significant milestone, Brookfield Renewable Partners, along with institutional partners, completed the acquisition of 100% of TerraForm Global in December 2017. This acquisition integrated TerraForm Global's 952-megawatt portfolio into Brookfield Renewable's larger global platform. The acquisition was seen as a strategic expansion for Brookfield, establishing a foothold in high-growth renewable markets like India and China. Following the acquisition, TerraForm Global's Class A common stock was delisted from the Nasdaq Stock Market. The Indian subsidiary, Terraform Global India Private Limited, was incorporated in September 2016 and remains active.
