Their business model revolves around the development and commercialization of broad-spectrum vaccines. They generate revenue through the sale of these vaccines once they have been approved for use. Their lead product, VAX-24, is a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) that targets 24 different strains of the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. This vaccine has been granted Breakthrough Therapy designation by the FDA for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease in adults.

Vaxcyte uses advanced chemistry and modern synthetic techniques, including their proprietary XpressCF™ cell-free protein synthesis platform, to produce these vaccines. This approach allows them to overcome the limitations of traditional cell-based vaccine methods and create vaccines capable of breaking down bacteria's complex defense mechanisms while maintaining their ability to trigger an immune response.
