SunTen Phytotech, established in 2000, operates as a subsidiary of the Sun Ten Pharmaceutical Group, focusing on the development of new botanical drugs. The parent company, Sun Ten Pharmaceutical, was founded in Taiwan in 1946 by Dr. Hon-yen Hsu. Dr. Hsu, recognized as the “Father of Scientific Chinese Herbal Medicine,” applied modern extraction technologies to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). His background includes a PhD in Pharmacy from Kyoto University and a role as the director of Taiwan's Bureau of Drug Control, where he established standards to safeguard consumer health.

SunTen Phytotech was created to spearhead the group's entry into the biotech era, developing herbal-based products to meet specific medical needs. The company's work involves producing novel botanical medicines and functional dietary products aimed at addressing conditions like cardiovascular diseases and chronic gastrointestinal disorders. A notable milestone for SunTen Phytotech includes receiving a grant from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2002 for the development of a new cardiovascular botanical drug, SB221. The company also secured an Industry Innovation Performance Award from the same ministry in 2008.
