About Stentys

Stentys S.A., established in 2006, is a medical technology company focused on developing and marketing a new generation of stents for treating complex cardiovascular diseases. The company was co-founded by Gonzague Issenmann and Jacques Séguin, who previously founded CoreValve, a company acquired by Medtronic. Mr. Issenmann, a health tech entrepreneur with an MBA from INSEAD, served as the CEO and later became the chairman of Womed, another Femtech startup. The company's headquarters are in France, with initial operations also based in Princeton, New Jersey.

The core of Stentys' business is its Self-Apposing® stent technology, designed to address challenges in interventional cardiology, particularly in treating acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and lesions in complex coronary arteries like bifurcations. Unlike traditional balloon-expandable stents, Stentys' device is made of nitinol, a self-expanding nickel and titanium alloy with shape-memory properties. This allows the stent to conform to the natural shape and varying diameter of a blood vessel, ensuring continuous contact with the artery wall. This feature is particularly beneficial in cases of vessel spasm or when a blood clot dissolves, as it minimizes the risk of malapposition—a gap between the stent and the vessel wall that can lead to blood clots. The company’s products are sold to interventional cardiologists in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Stentys' product portfolio includes several iterations of its stent technology. The device is available as a bare-metal stent as well as drug-eluting versions coated with paclitaxel or sirolimus to prevent restenosis, the re-narrowing of the artery. The Xposition S, a sirolimus-eluting stent, features an improved delivery system to enhance placement accuracy. The company also developed a version for treating below-the-knee arteries, receiving a CE mark for this indication in 2015. In addition to its stents, Stentys has offered other devices such as the STENTYS AC aspiration catheter for thrombectomy. The company has pursued strategic growth, including a distribution agreement for the MiStent from Micell Technologies and acquisitions of Cappella Peel Away's delivery system technology in 2014 and Minvasys in 2018 to broaden its interventional cardiology portfolio. Tracxn lists the company as deadpooled.
