About Spear

Founded in 2017 by Gadi Kuperman, a former Israeli Air Force pilot, SpearUAV is a Tel Aviv-based defense company specializing in encapsulated, AI-based loitering weapon systems. The firm operates in the defense and Homeland Security (HLS) markets, serving military forces, government organizations, and defense agencies globally, including as a certified sole supplier to the Israeli Ministry of Defense. In November 2025, SpearUAV was acquired by Uvision, a specialist in loitering aerial munition systems.

SpearUAV's core business revolves around designing and manufacturing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) that provide an "Organic Air Force" to tactical units at the battalion level and below. The company's main offering is the Viper family of drones, which are stored in and launched from sealed canisters, enabling instant deployment from land, sea, and air platforms, including by individual soldiers, from armored vehicles, or even submerged submarines. This encapsulated technology allows the drones to be launched at high speed, after which they immediately unfold and stabilize without operator intervention. The systems are designed for ease of use, requiring only a few days of training.

The product line includes several variants tailored for different missions. The VIPER 300 is a loitering munition system that integrates reconnaissance and precision attack capabilities. Other products include the VIPER 750, primarily for naval use, and the VIPER I, an interceptor designed to neutralize aerial threats like hostile drones. The earlier Ninox family (including the Ninox 40, 66, and 103 models) also features encapsulated drones for on-demand intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISTAR). These systems utilize AI-based computer vision for target recognition and tracking, can operate in swarms, and integrate with existing command and control systems. Spear has secured significant contracts, including a $20 million deal for its VIPER 300 system announced in December 2024.
