About Seed-X

Seed-X is an agritech company that provides an AI-powered platform for the non-destructive analysis of seeds and grains. Founded in 2016 by Sarel Ashkenazy, Moti Shniberg, and Gadi Weisberger, the company aims to revolutionize the seed and food industries by analyzing a seed's physical characteristics (phenotype) to determine its genetic quality. Ashkenazy, the CEO, has a background in computer vision and AI, with one of the founders having previously co-founded face.com, which was sold to Facebook. This expertise in facial recognition technology inspired the idea to analyze a seed's "face" to understand its genetics.

The company's core technology, GeNee™, uses advanced machine vision and proprietary deep learning algorithms to analyze seeds and grains individually. This technology can identify key traits such as germination probability, genetic purity, and quality without damaging the seed. This allows seed producers and food companies to sort and upgrade seed batches, turning low-quality or zero-value lots into marketable products. Seed-X's products include the GeNee™ Breeder, a portable analysis tool, and the GeNee™ Sorter, an AI-powered machine that sorts seeds based on various quality parameters. The platform serves seed companies, breeders, and grain producers by helping to speed up breeding cycles, reduce costs, and improve the overall quality and security of the food supply chain.

Seed-X operates on a business-to-business model, partnering with seed and grain processing machine manufacturers to integrate its AI technology into next-generation sorters. In October 2021, the company announced a collaboration with Petkus, a global manufacturer of optical processing machines. The company has raised a total of $20 million in funding, including a $10 million Series A round in June 2022 led by iAngels, with participation from Neva SGR and Champel Capital. Headquartered in the US, Seed-X has offices in Israel and the Netherlands and serves over 50 customers globally.
