This allows a controlled amount of blood to be redirected from the high-pressure arterial system to the low-pressure venous system, which reduces peripheral vascular resistance and improves arterial compliance, resulting in an immediate and sustained drop in blood pressure. The procedure was designed to be reversible. The ROX Coupler received CE Marking in Europe for treating both hypertension and advanced COPD.
