Reframe Systems, founded in 2022 by a trio of former Amazon Robotics engineers, is addressing the housing crisis with a focus on construction technology. The founders, Vikas Enti (CEO), Aaron Small (Head of Operations), and Felipe Polido (Head of Technology), leverage their collective two decades of experience in scaling automated systems at Amazon to revolutionize homebuilding. The inspiration for the company stemmed from CEO Vikas Enti's desire to tackle significant global challenges, specifically the carbon emissions associated with construction, after becoming a father.

The company operates on a vertically integrated model, managing design, engineering, construction, and site work to deliver turnkey homes. Reframe Systems targets the "missing middle" of the housing market—such as duplexes, triplexes, single-family homes, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs)—that sits between high-density apartments and single-family residences. Its business strategy involves establishing small, localized microfactories in regions experiencing housing shortages. These microfactories can be set up in under 100 days for less than $5 million, a fraction of the capital required for traditional large-scale modular plants. The company pursues a co-developer and builder business model, only building a factory once a minimum project pipeline is secured, and offers units that can qualify for both public subsidies and open-market pricing.

Reframe Systems utilizes a proprietary software platform, physical AI, and vision-guided robotics to automate tasks like framing and sheathing within its microfactories. This system allows for the mass customization of housing designs to comply with local zoning regulations, building codes, and neighborhood aesthetics. The output is a modular panelized wall system, with elements like plumbing and wiring pre-installed, designed for rapid, snap-together assembly on-site. This process significantly reduces construction timelines and costs. The resulting homes are all-electric, super-insulated, and built to be climate-resilient and meet Passive House standards for energy efficiency. In July 2024, the company completed its first customer project, an affordable, all-electric ADU in Arlington, MA. With a recent $20 million Series A funding round, Reframe is scaling its operations, with projects underway in Massachusetts and California, and aims to produce one million housing units over the next 20 years.
