Founded in 2011 by Daniel Barel and Ahishay Sardes, the company is headquartered in Herzliya, Israel, with a UK integration center in Coventry. Barel, serving as CEO, and Sardes have backgrounds that led them to rethink vehicle architecture, aiming to maximize interior space and functional design by moving essential components to the corners of the vehicle. REE Automotive went public on the Nasdaq stock exchange in July 2021 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), 10X Capital Venture Acquisition Corp.

REE's business model is based on supplying these electric platforms to a range of clients, including commercial vehicle manufacturers, delivery and logistics companies, and mobility-as-a-service providers. The company's platforms are designed to reduce the total cost of ownership for electric commercial fleets by offering benefits like enhanced maneuverability, increased cargo capacity, and simplified maintenance through the easy replacement of REEcorner units. Their product lineup includes the P7-C, a Class 4 electric chassis cab that is eligible for significant government incentives. REE has established a network of authorized dealers and service providers to support its customers.
