RadioFrame
Radio access solutions for mobile network operators
About RadioFrame
RadioFrame Networks, Inc. provides radio access solutions for mobile network operators and OEM partners. The company, based in Redmond, Washington, was founded in 1999 by Mary Jesse. Its product offerings included base-transceiver station solutions, wireless base stations, and management tools for iDEN, GSM, WCDMA, 2G, 3G, and 4G network technologies. The company specialized in developing picocell and femtocell products, which are small, low-power cellular base stations designed to improve indoor coverage and network capacity for residential and business users.
A significant development was the introduction of its OmniRadio™ processor, a proprietary microchip designed to enable the mass deployment of low-cost femtocell base stations. Over its history, RadioFrame raised substantial funding, totaling over $100 million from investors including VantagePoint Capital Partners, Samsung Venture Investment, Innovacom, Ericsson Venture, and Ignition Partners. In November 2009, the company's iDEN networks technology business was acquired by Motorola Solutions. In response to economic conditions, RadioFrame later shifted its focus from femtocell hardware to its iDEN and ASIC (chip) businesses in 2009.
