About Quill (now Jellyfish)

In 2010, Ed Bussey identified a growing challenge for e-commerce businesses: producing high-quality content at a large scale. Drawing from his experience as a founding member of the online retailer figleaves.com, he recognized that traditional in-house or agency models couldn't keep up with the demand for product descriptions, guides, and other pre-purchase information crucial for driving online sales. This insight led to the creation of Quill, a platform designed to connect global brands with a network of freelance content creators. Quill's model combined a technology platform with a curated network of writers, editors, and designers, enabling the production of content in multiple languages at speed. The company attracted over $14 million in funding from investors like Smedvig Capital and Panoramic Growth Equity. This capital fueled its growth, securing major clients such as Google, eBay, and Tommy Hilfiger. A significant chapter in Quill's journey began in May 2019 when it was acquired by the French media and technology company Webedia. This move was designed to enhance Webedia's B2B content services and expand both companies' global footprint. Ed Bussey continued to lead Quill as CEO following the acquisition. The story evolved again in February 2021, when the digital marketing agency Jellyfish, part of the same holding company Fimalac, announced it was acquiring and integrating Quill along with four other companies. This strategic consolidation aimed to fold Quill's performance content capabilities into Jellyfish's broader suite of digital marketing services, with Bussey joining the Jellyfish leadership team.
