Primaa, formerly Kee Lab, a Paris-based MedTech company, is carving a niche in the digital pathology market with its artificial intelligence-driven diagnostic software. Founded in September 2018 by siblings Fanny, Marie, and Stéphane Sockeel, the company was born from a direct clinical need identified by co-founder Marie Sockeel, a pathologist who saw the potential for AI to alleviate the mounting pressures on her field due to a rising number of diagnoses and a stagnant number of specialists.

Primaa develops software that assists pathologists by analyzing digitized tissue slides to provide rapid and reliable initial diagnoses, a process traditionally done manually. The company's business model targets hospitals, pathology laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies. By digitizing slides and creating a vast image database with medical partners, Primaa's AI can identify various pathologies. This approach is designed to improve diagnostic precision, save pathologists time, and accelerate case reviews. The technology integrates into existing laboratory workflows and digital pathology viewers, acting as a companion tool for physicians.

The company's product line includes CE-marked solutions like Cleo Breast and Cleo Skin. Cleo Breast is an AI-powered tool for detecting critical biomarkers in breast cancer cases, such as invasive carcinoma, metastases, and mitosis. Cleo Skin aids in the analysis of skin biopsies by identifying key biomarkers for lesions and providing measurements. In March 2025, Primaa announced a partnership with Gestalt to integrate its skin cancer algorithms into Gestalt's PathFlow digital pathology platform. The company has successfully raised $7.58 million over three funding rounds, with its latest Series A round in November 2024 securing $5.38 million. This capital is intended to fuel development and international commercialization.
