PlayerData is a sports technology company, founded in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2017 by CEO Roy Hotrabhvanon and CTO Hayden Ball, both graduates of the University of Edinburgh. The company's creation was inspired by Hotrabhvanon's own experiences as a former international archer for Thailand, where he recognized the gap in access to elite performance-tracking technology for most athletes.

The firm specializes in making advanced athlete monitoring accessible and affordable for teams and individuals at all levels, from grassroots to professional. Its core product is a GPS-based wearable sensor system, known as EDGE, that athletes wear in a vest. This system tracks a wide range of on-field metrics, including distance, top speed, sprints, and workload, providing biometric data and performance analytics. The data is sent to a dedicated mobile app, allowing coaches and athletes to gain insights, manage training loads, reduce injury risk, and analyze tactical performance.

PlayerData operates on a B2B and B2C model, serving sports teams as well as individual athletes across various outdoor sports like soccer, rugby, and field hockey. The company's mission is to democratize sports technology by providing high-quality data that was previously only available to elite institutions. In April 2021, PlayerData secured a $2.3 million Series A funding round led by Hiro Capital, with participation from existing investor Sir Terry Leahy, former CEO of Tesco. This funding was aimed at fueling international expansion and growth across multiple sports. By 2023, the company had raised a total of $6 million and was serving over 18,000 athletes across 500 clubs.
