Ore Energy is an Amsterdam climate-tech company developing low-cost, long-duration iron-air batteries that store renewable electricity for up to about 100 hours and feed it back to the grid when demand rises. A 2023 spin-out from TU Delft founded by CEO Dr. Ir. Aytaç Yilmaz with co-founders Rutil Özdemir (COO) and Yaiza Gonzalez Garcia (CSO), it uses abundant materials—iron, water and air—via reversible rusting rather than scarce lithium or cobalt, targeting utilities, energy suppliers and grid operators. Modular 40-foot container systems (up to ~4.2 MWh each) scale from megawatt-hours toward gigawatt-hours; milestones include a May 2024 €10 million seed (Positron Ventures, SPRIND and others), a July 2025 grid-connected pilot at The Green Village (TU Delft), a 1 GWh deal with Budget Thuis and utility pilots with EDF. In August 2026 Ore Energy raised €37.3 million ($43 million) Series A led by Plural and HV Capital with Positron Ventures, taking total funding to about €53 million, to build its first manufacturing facility and path to GWh-scale production by 2028.
