About Orangeev

Orange EV is a manufacturer of heavy-duty, pure-electric terminal trucks, also known as yard trucks, based in Kansas City, Kansas. The company was founded in 2012 by Kurt Neutgens and Wayne Mathisen with an initial personal investment of $50,000. Mathisen, the CEO, brought over 18 years of experience in corporate and operational finance, including roles at Sprint and CenturyLink, where he managed a 10,000-vehicle fleet. Neutgens, serving as President and CTO, has a 17-year background at Ford Motor Company in various roles, including engineering manager for the F-150 and co-leader of the EcoBoost program strategy. Their combined expertise in finance and vehicle engineering was foundational to the company's direction.

The company operates on a direct-to-customer business model, providing a turnkey solution that includes the electric trucks, charging infrastructure, telematics, training, and service. This approach targets fleet managers, financial officers, and sustainability teams at facilities in rail intermodal, distribution, parcel delivery, manufacturing, and retail. Revenue is generated through the sale, lease, and rental of their electric trucks. A significant milestone was achieved in 2015 with the commercial deployment of their first 100% electric Class 8 vehicle, the T-Series. By November 2023, the company had built its 1,000th electric terminal truck. In August 2022, Orange EV secured $35 million in a Series A funding round led by S2G Ventures and CCI to scale manufacturing and accelerate growth.

Orange EV's product line includes the e-TRIEVER and HUSK-e models. The e-TRIEVER is designed for general fleet yards, can operate for up to 24 hours on a single charge, and has a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 81,000 lbs. The more powerful HUSK-e is built for demanding port and rail operations, with a GCWR of 180,000 pounds and a larger battery capacity. These vehicles offer a substantial reduction in operating costs, with customers reporting savings of up to 90% on fuel, and an average uptime of 98-99%, compared to 75% for diesel counterparts. The trucks feature a direct-drive, brushless AC induction motor, eliminating the transmission for smoother, quieter operation. Orange EV also provides a Fleet Information Management System (FIMS) for real-time telematics and performance data tracking.
