The company is a spin-off from ETH Zurich, built upon more than five years of dedicated research in engineering, sustainability, and policy. The foundation of Optiml stems from the doctoral research of co-founder and CEO, Dr. Evan Petkov, who, alongside co-founders Jordi Campos (CTO) and Nico Dehnert (CCO), identified a market gap for a scalable solution to aid in renovation planning. Dr. Petkov's background as a sustainable building engineer informed the development of the platform.

Optiml's core offering is its Real Estate Decision Intelligence (REDI) platform, designed for asset managers, investors, and real estate consultancies. The platform addresses the challenge of decarbonizing real estate portfolios by providing data-driven tools to create and manage cost-effective, low-carbon investment strategies. It operates on a subscription-based model, generating revenue by providing access to its suite of tools. The technology utilizes proprietary AI-powered optimization algorithms, energy simulations, and digital twins to analyze complex datasets, even when data is minimal. This enables clients to move beyond simple benchmarks to develop detailed, actionable renovation plans for individual assets and entire portfolios, aligning with financial targets, regulatory compliance (like CRREM, EU Taxonomy, and SFDR), and Net Zero goals. The platform is designed for seamless integration with existing ESG and management information systems.
