The company was founded in early 2025 by serial cybersecurity entrepreneurs Elad Ben-Meir (CEO), Ofer Amitai, and Tom Winter. The founders have previous experience with successful exits, including SCADAfence (acquired by Honeywell), Portnox (sold to private equity), and For-Each (acquired by Autodesk).

The inspiration for Onit Security stemmed from a direct experience of co-founder Ofer Amitai, whose previous company was breached by an Iranian state-sponsored cyberattack that exploited a known, yet deprioritized, vulnerability. This event highlighted a critical gap in traditional vulnerability management, where security teams are often overwhelmed by alerts and struggle with manual remediation processes. Onit aims to address these operational bottlenecks by transforming how organizations manage and resolve security exposures.

The company's core offering is its Decision-Based Exposure Management platform, which operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model with tiered subscriptions. Instead of relying on generic CVSS scores, Onit's "fleet" of AI agents analyzes exposures with business context to better prioritize threats. The platform automates the entire lifecycle, from collecting data from various IT and security tools to identifying asset owners and executing remediation, significantly reducing the mean time to remediation (MTTR) from months to minutes. A key feature is that once a human operator makes a decision for a specific type of exposure, that decision becomes an enforceable policy that the agents apply to all similar instances in the future, creating a system of continuous, compounding resolution. However, a human must always provide the final approval for the AI to implement a fix.

In March 2026, Onit Security announced it had raised $11 million in a seed funding round. The round was led by Hetz Ventures and Brightmind Partners, with participation from several angel investors. The company intends to use the capital to accelerate product development and expand its go-to-market efforts. Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, Onit is already working with Fortune 1000 clients, focusing on large companies in sectors like finance and manufacturing with complex environments.
