Moonshot AI, also known as Yuezhi Anmian Technology, is a Chinese artificial intelligence company established in April 2023 by co-founders Yang Zhilin, Zhou Xinyu, and Wu Yuxin. The company is headquartered in Beijing, China.

Yang Zhilin, the CEO, is a graduate of Tsinghua University and holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. His academic background and research in natural language processing, particularly his work on the Transformer-XL and XLNet models, have been foundational to the company's technological direction. The founding team comprises individuals with experience from major tech companies like Google, Meta, and Amazon.

Moonshot AI focuses on the development of large language models (LLMs) with a specific emphasis on long-context processing. The company's flagship product is Kimi Chat, an AI assistant capable of processing up to 200,000 Chinese characters in a single prompt. This extended context window allows Kimi to perform tasks such as summarizing lengthy documents, analyzing complex reports, and engaging in detailed, multi-turn conversations. The business model is centered on providing access to its advanced AI models through an API, catering to enterprise clients who require sophisticated text analysis and generation capabilities. The company has also developed a multimodal model, moonshot-v1-vision-preview, which can interpret and understand images.
