The founding team identified a market opportunity while developing optical communications for SpaceX's Starlink satellite service, where they recognized limitations in the existing optical receiver industry. The company is focused on designing and mass-producing high-performance optical transceivers in the United States to address a supply chain dominated by Chinese manufacturers.

The firm's core business involves the scalable manufacturing of optical hardware for the next generation of computing and communications infrastructure. In February 2026, Mesh Optical Technologies announced it had raised $50 million in a Series A funding round led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Also Capital and Banner VC. This capital is intended to scale the production of its first product, the Alpha C1, and expand its integrated optical manufacturing capabilities.

Mesh's initial product, the Alpha C1, is an optical transceiver that converts electrical signals to light at 1.6 terabits per second (Tbps). These devices are essential components in modern artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, enabling multiple graphics processing units (GPUs) to work in unison. The Alpha C1 is designed to offer improved power efficiency, lower latency, and higher reliability for AI workloads and power-constrained data centers. A key design feature is the removal of a power-hungry component common in other transceivers, which is expected to improve energy efficiency by 3% to 5%. To enable scalable production, the transceiver's optical engine is manufactured using flip-chip die bonding, a fast and repeatable packaging method used in modern processors. The company aims to produce 1,000 units per day by the end of 2026 and begin taking bulk orders in 2027.
