LyGenesis's lead product, LYG-LIV-001, is an allogeneic cell therapy for patients with End-Stage Liver Disease (ESLD). This therapy involves isolating liver cells (hepatocytes) from donated organs that are otherwise unsuitable for transplantation and injecting them into the patient's mesenteric lymph nodes. The lymph nodes provide the ideal environment for these cells to engraft, multiply, and form vascularized, functional ectopic liver tissue. In December 2020, the company received FDA clearance for an Investigational New Drug (IND) application, and the Phase 2a clinical trial began dosing patients in April 2024. The open-label study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of the treatment in cohorts of ESLD patients. Beyond liver disease, LyGenesis's development pipeline includes therapies for regenerating the thymus to combat aging, the pancreas for Type 1 diabetes, and the kidney for end-stage renal disease.
