Lunar Outpost

The company develops robotic systems for both space and terrestrial applications. Its flagship product is the Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform (MAPP), a series of autonomous lunar rovers designed to provide mobility as a service on the Moon. These rovers, including variants like MAPP-Ultra and HL-MAPP, are engineered to carry scientific and commercial payloads, explore harsh environments, and survive the lunar night. Lunar Outpost operates on a service-based business model, offering payload space and mobility to a range of clients including government agencies like NASA, research institutions, and commercial companies. This model aims to lower the cost of space exploration and infrastructure development.

A significant project is the development of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) for NASA's Artemis program. In collaboration with partners such as General Motors, Goodyear, and Lockheed Martin, Lunar Outpost is creating the 'Eagle' LTV, a human-rated vehicle intended to support astronaut missions starting with Artemis V. The LTV is also designed for commercial use, supporting payload delivery and infrastructure deployment during non-Artemis periods. The company has multiple lunar missions scheduled. Its first mission, Lunar Voyage 1, launched in early 2025, marked the first commercial rover to land on another planetary body. Upcoming missions include explorations of the Reiner Gamma magnetic anomaly and further scientific and commercial payload deliveries. Lunar Outpost has also partnered with Nokia to test and deploy the first 4G/LTE cellular network on the Moon.

Beyond its space ventures, Lunar Outpost has developed technologies with terrestrial applications. The 'Canary' environmental monitoring system, originally designed as the 'Space Canary' to detect harmful lunar dust in astronaut habitats, has been adapted for Earth-based use. The solar-powered Canary-S and other variants are used for air quality monitoring in various sectors, including by the U.S. Forest Service and in the oil and gas industry, to detect pollutants like particulate matter and carbon monoxide. The company has received over $23.6 million in funding across several rounds, including a Series A round, to scale its technology and support its various projects.
