About Lpixel

LPixel Inc. is a Japanese medical information technology company that specializes in artificial intelligence solutions for advanced diagnostic support through medical imaging analysis. Founded in March 2014 as a spin-out from a University of Tokyo research laboratory by three members, including former CEO Yuki Shimahara, the company has leveraged its academic roots in image processing to address challenges in the life sciences. The current President and CEO is Dr. Tomy Kamada. The company's business model is centered on B2B partnerships, subscriptions, and direct sales to healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and research organizations. Its revenue is generated through licensing fees for its AI technologies and subscription models for ongoing software access and updates. LPixel offers two primary product lines: "EIRL," a medical image diagnostic support AI, and "IMACEL," an AI image analysis platform for life science and drug discovery research and development. The EIRL product series is designed to assist clinicians by analyzing medical images from CT, MRI, and X-ray scans to detect diseases such as brain aneurysms and lung cancer. This technology aims to reduce the workload of physicians and improve diagnostic accuracy. As of June 2024, the EIRL series had been adopted by over 800 medical facilities. The IMACEL platform is a cloud-based, no-code solution that provides AI image analysis models for various stages of pharmaceutical R&D, from experimental design to data analysis, enhancing research efficiency. Since its founding, LPixel has achieved several key milestones. In October 2016, it raised $7 million in a Series A round led by JAFCO Group. By October 2018, the company had secured a total of $30 million in investments from major corporations like Olympus, FUJIFILM, and CYBERDYNE. The first product in its EIRL series, EIRL Brain Aneurysm, gained regulatory approval in Japan in October 2019, becoming one of the country's first deep learning-powered diagnostic support software as a medical device (SaMD). The company has also been involved in several national research projects in Japan, collaborating with institutions like the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Science and Technology Agency.
