Founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 2018 by Hanna Asmussen (CEO), Lisa Dahlke (CRO), and Dr. Franzi Löw (CTO), the company was born from the founders' collective personal and professional experiences with the bureaucratic hurdles of moving and working across more than 15 countries. Asmussen's decade as an expat, Dahlke's background as an HR professional who relocated over 300 employees, and Löw's expertise in solving problems with technology shaped the firm's mission.

The company provides a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that serves as a centralized system for HR departments and talent acquisition teams to manage the entire lifecycle of an employee's cross-border move. This includes services for visa and immigration applications, work permits, destination services like housing and banking, and managing compliance for business trips and temporary transfers. Localyze's business model is subscription-based, offering various tiers such as Starter, Business, and Enterprise, supplemented by different levels of case management services ranging from self-guided to premium, hands-on support. Since its inception, Localyze has demonstrated significant growth, backed by substantial venture capital funding. The company participated in the Y Combinator accelerator in 2019 and has raised a total of $47.3 million over four funding rounds. A pivotal Series B round in September 2022, led by General Catalyst, secured $35 million to fuel expansion into North America and Asia. This followed a $12 million Series A in mid-2021 and earlier seed funding, with investors including Blossom Capital, Frontline Ventures, and Visionaries Club.
