Lima Corporate
Medical device company specializing in the manufacture of orthopedic implants, joint replacements, and 3D-printed medical solutions
About Lima Corporate
In the aftermath of World War II, Carlo Leopoldo Lualdi founded LimaCorporate in 1945 in a small Italian village, initially to produce surgical instruments. The company's name, Lima, is an acronym for Lualdi Industrie Meccaniche Anduins. Lualdi's ambitions soon expanded beyond surgical tools, and by 1953, he had developed a helicopter prototype, pivoting the company to become a supplier for the aerospace industry. It was this expertise in materials like titanium, adopted in the 1970s for aerospace applications, that would later become a cornerstone of its orthopedic business. In 2000, Lualdi's son refocused the family business entirely on orthopedics, leveraging its manufacturing and engineering heritage. A pivotal moment came in 2007 when LimaCorporate patented its Trabecular Titanium, an innovative material developed through 3D printing, or electron beam melting, technology. This breakthrough allowed for the creation of patient-specific implants and set the company on a path of global expansion, starting with its first subsidiary in Japan in 2004. A significant chapter in LimaCorporate's journey unfolded in early 2024 with its acquisition by Enovis, a U.S.-based medical technology company. Enovis acquired LimaCorporate for approximately €800 million, a deal that consisted of a €700 million cash payment and €100 million in Enovis common stock. This strategic acquisition was aimed at creating a global orthopedic business with revenues approaching $1 billion and strengthening Enovis's position in the reconstructive implant market.
