LandSpace Technology, a Beijing-based commercial space launch provider, was established in June 2015 by founder and CEO Zhang Changwu, an alumnus of Tsinghua University. The company's inception followed a 2014 Chinese government policy change that permitted private capital into the space industry. LandSpace is focused on the complete lifecycle of launch vehicles, from research and development to manufacturing, testing, and launch operations, aiming to provide reliable and cost-effective space transportation services to the global market. Its business model revolves around offering standardized launch solutions for the small and medium-sized commercial aerospace market, including satellite manufacturers, operators, research institutions, and government agencies.

A key milestone for the company was the successful orbital launch of its Zhuque-2 (ZQ-2) rocket on July 12, 2023, which was the world's first methane-fueled launch vehicle to reach orbit. This achievement positioned LandSpace as a significant player in the commercial space sector and validated its focus on liquid oxygen-methane (methalox) propulsion technology. Methalox is a focal point for the company as it is more efficient, environmentally cleaner, and less prone to causing carbon deposits in engines, which reduces maintenance costs for reusable rockets. The company has since conducted further successful launches of the Zhuque-2, deploying multiple satellites into sun-synchronous orbit.

LandSpace's primary product is its line of Zhuque (Vermilion Bird) rockets. The initial Zhuque-1, a solid-propellant rocket, was launched in October 2018 but failed to reach orbit. The company then pivoted to the more advanced, liquid-fueled Zhuque-2. This medium-lift rocket stands about 49.5 meters tall and can carry a payload of up to 6,000 kg to low Earth orbit (LEO) and 4,000 kg to a 500 km Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). The company is also developing the Zhuque-3, a larger, stainless steel, two-stage launch vehicle designed for reusability, with a planned maiden flight in 2025. To support these ambitions, LandSpace has established significant infrastructure, including a manufacturing base in Huzhou and a rocket assembly and test plant in Jiaxing.
