About JetClosing

JetClosing was a technology-driven company that provided digital title and escrow services for real estate transactions. Founded in 2016 by Daniel Greenshields and spun out of the Seattle-based startup studio Pioneer Square Labs, the company aimed to modernize the traditionally paper-intensive home closing process. Greenshields, who previously spent nearly 15 years at ShareBuilder helping to digitize the purchasing of stocks and other financial instruments, brought his experience in streamlining complex transactions to the real estate sector.

The company developed a cloud-based platform accessible via a desktop portal and mobile applications for both Android and iOS devices. This technology was designed to increase transparency and efficiency for all parties involved in a real estate transaction, including homebuyers, sellers, and real estate agents. Key features included secure document transfers, real-time status notifications, e-signatures, and remote online notarizations (RON), which became particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic as demand for remote services surged. The platform integrated technologies like machine learning and cloud computing to digitize the entire workflow, from opening an order to final closing.

JetClosing's business model centered on charging a flat escrow fee to both the buyer and seller for each transaction. Additional revenue was generated from issuing title insurance policies for both owners and lenders, as well as providing services for mortgage refinances. The company primarily served clients in the residential real estate market, including iBuyers, and operated in states such as Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. Over its lifetime, the company raised approximately $44 million in funding from investors including T. Rowe Price, PSL Ventures, and Trilogy Equity Partners. In March 2021, tech veteran Anna Collins, with prior leadership experience at Amazon and Microsoft, was appointed CEO to scale the company's operations. Despite its efforts and initial growth, JetClosing ceased operations in June 2022, facing challenges from a cooling housing market and competition from established industry players.
