In 1975 Paris, Didier Truchot founded Ipsos with a clear goal: to work closely with clients and provide data to measure the success of their advertising and media campaigns, a novel service in France at the time. The company initially focused on developing innovative tools, like an instrument to analyze billboard ad effectiveness. The business began to scale significantly when Jean-Marc Lech joined as co-president in 1982, helping to build the firm into one of France's top five research companies by the late 1980s. The 1990s marked a period of aggressive expansion for Ipsos, which began acquiring companies across Europe and later, North and South America. This growth strategy was fueled by private investment, allowing the company to establish a global footprint. A pivotal moment arrived on July 1, 1999, when Ipsos went public on the Paris Stock Exchange. This IPO provided the capital needed to continue its expansion and solidified its position on the world stage. Ipsos's most significant move came in 2011 with the acquisition of Synovate for $808 million, a deal that established Ipsos as the world's third-largest research agency. This acquisition, along with dozens of others, has been central to the company's playbook. Today, Ipsos operates in 90 markets, serving thousands of clients by turning survey data and market analysis into actionable insights.
