Founded in South Africa in July 2020 by Nicholas Riemer, Matthew Riemer, Jurie Wessels, and Dewald Joubert, the company emerged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on education. The founders combined their expertise in academia and technology; Nicholas Riemer, a chartered accountant, along with university lecturers Wessels and Joubert, identified the need for a solution, while Matthew Riemer led the technological development.

The company's primary product is a mobile and PC application that serves as a proctoring tool for non-venue-based exams. It operates on a business-to-business model, contracting with educational institutions that pay a subscription fee, often priced per student for a 12-month period with unlimited use. The platform is engineered to be data-light and functional in low-bandwidth environments, addressing the digital divide by working on entry-level smartphones and not requiring a constant internet connection. This approach makes it a cost-effective alternative to traditional, resource-heavy proctoring solutions.

The application employs several features to mitigate cheating, including randomized selfies for facial recognition, voice recognition, audio recording to detect unauthorized assistance, and GPS tracking to identify students in close proximity. For PC assessments, it can capture the screen to monitor for the use of unauthorized resources like AI tools or web searches. The platform also includes plagiarism detection software that can convert handwritten scripts into text for comparison. In September 2025, the company announced it had secured an $11 million equity investment led by Kaltroco to fuel international expansion and further AI development.
