About IndiaHomes

IndiaHomes, legally known as Indiaworld Technologies Private Limited, was established in 2007 by Samarjit Singh, a serial entrepreneur with a focus on achieving operational excellence through speed and scale. The company was conceived as a professionally managed property transactions firm aiming to reshape India's real estate market. Its business model was distinct from typical listing portals; IndiaHomes operated as a tech-enabled brokerage, employing in-house brokers and a proprietary Lead Preview System to assist clients in buying, selling, and renting residential properties. Revenue was primarily generated from commissions on property transactions and, later, through ad sales to developers for new project launches.

The company embarked on an aggressive growth trajectory, securing significant venture capital. Over its lifespan, IndiaHomes raised between $50.6 million and $79.78 million across multiple funding rounds from prominent investors including New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Helion Venture Partners, and Foundation Capital. This capital fueled expansion across 50 Indian cities and into international markets like Dubai and London to cater to non-resident Indians (NRIs). Strategic acquisitions were a key component of its growth, including the purchase of UK-based Unesta Homes to strengthen its international presence, rival portal Favista.com, and technology firm Vitruvian Technologies to acquire an ERP platform for developers.

By 2014, the platform boasted 1.3 million unique monthly visitors and aimed to close the financial year with $1 billion in transaction value. However, the company faced significant challenges, including difficulty in recovering approximately Rs 100 crore in receivables from builders amid a market slowdown. In early 2016, amid mounting pressures, changes in e-commerce regulations, and investor concerns, IndiaHomes suspended its primary new apartment sales operations. Shortly after, the company became defunct, with its founder and key board members from its investment firms resigning. Efforts were made to keep the legal entity active to recover outstanding debts.
