Ike, a company focused on automated trucking technology, was established in 2018 by a team of veterans from prominent technology and automotive programs at Google, Apple, and Uber. A crucial element of Ike's technical strategy was a licensing agreement with Nuro, a developer of autonomous delivery vehicles. This deal gave Ike access to Nuro's established software stack, providing a robust foundation for its own development focused on trucking applications. This close relationship and technological overlap culminated in December 2020, when Nuro acquired Ike. The acquisition was described as a homecoming, as Ike had initially started operations within Nuro's office space. Following the deal, approximately 55 Ike employees, including the three founders, transitioned to Nuro, integrating their expertise and technology, such as advanced virtual simulation tools, into Nuro's broader mission for automated vehicles.
