Host Analytics

Planful, formerly known as Host Analytics, operates a cloud-based financial performance management platform tailored for financial planning and analysis (FP&A) professionals. The company was established as Host Analytics in 2001 by Jim Eberlin and was among the first to move FP&A automation to the cloud. This addressed the market's need for a more agile and scalable alternative to traditional on-premise software.

A significant milestone occurred in late 2018 when the private equity firm Vector Capital acquired the company, providing financial resources to accelerate growth both organically and through acquisitions. Following the acquisition, Grant Halloran was appointed CEO in July 2019. Halloran, an executive with over two decades of experience in enterprise software and a co-founder of three SaaS businesses, brought a new vision to the company. This new direction led to the rebranding from Host Analytics to Planful in January 2020, a name chosen to better reflect the organized and systematic nature of its customer base.

The company's business model is primarily subscription-based, generating revenue from fees for its SaaS platform. It targets a diverse range of clients, from mid-sized companies to large enterprises, helping them automate and streamline financial processes. The Planful platform unifies financial planning, budgeting, consolidations, reporting, and analytics. Core features include tools for workforce and capital planning, financial modeling with scenario analysis, and automated financial close processes. The platform is designed to integrate with various enterprise systems like ERP and CRM, and offers multi-layer security to protect sensitive financial data.

Under Halloran's leadership, the company has focused on expanding its partner ecosystem and enhancing the user experience. A notable strategic move was the 2022 acquisition of Plannuh, a solution for marketing performance management, which expanded Planful's capabilities into a new vertical. The platform aims to compress financial cycle times, break down silos between finance and other departments, and enable what it terms "Continuous Planning"—a framework for faster, more agile decision-making in dynamic business environments.
