HJMicro, formally known as Guangdong Hongjun Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., is a semiconductor firm established in August 2021 with a clear focus on the data center and cloud computing market. The company is developing server Central Processing Units (CPUs) based on Arm architecture, positioning itself as a domestic alternative in a market historically dominated by x86-based processors. HJMicro's business model centers on the design and provision of these high-performance, energy-efficient server chips and accompanying system solutions to its partners. The company was founded by a team of seasoned industry veterans. Founder, Chairman, and CEO Shen Rong (沈荣) possesses over two decades of experience from his tenure at Intel, where he was instrumental in the shift from traditional RISC architecture servers to the now-ubiquitous x86 architecture. This deep experience in server processor evolution directly informs HJMicro's strategy. He is joined by CTO Chen Weixiang (陈伟祥), who brings critical expertise as the former main architect for the Kunpeng kernel and the SoC design lead for Alibaba's Yitian 710 project, both significant developments in China's domestic CPU landscape.

HJMicro's core product is a server processor built upon the Armv9 instruction set and the Neoverse N2 platform. The strategic intent is to deliver CPUs that offer superior energy efficiency and are easier to deploy, particularly for cloud-native applications. Beyond the chip itself, the company plans to provide comprehensive system solutions, including reference designs, to help partners accelerate the deployment of server systems. This approach addresses the growing demand within the cloud computing industry for processors that can balance high core counts and performance with lower costs and power consumption. In May 2022, HJMicro secured a significant milestone by raising nearly 800 million CNY in an Angel and Pre-Series A funding round co-led by Walden International, Hillhouse Ventures, and CDH VGC, which was allocated to team expansion and R&D infrastructure.
