About HData

HData provides a regulatory intelligence platform that leverages artificial intelligence and automation to assist the U.S. energy industry. The company's main offering is a platform that transforms complex regulatory documents and filings into structured, analyzable data, streamlining compliance and providing business intelligence.

HData was founded in 2018 by Hudson Hollister, who previously established the Data Coalition and was instrumental in crafting government data reforms like the DATA Act of 2014. His experience as a lawyer at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he observed the agency's lack of searchable data for analyzing financial reports, inspired him to advocate for the switch from unstructured documents to structured data in regulatory agencies. Hollister's work extended to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which in 2019 announced it would adopt a searchable data format, enabling the creation of the HData platform. Yuval Lubowich, a co-founder who joined in 2021, brings extensive experience in building intuitive applications on standardized data and now serves as Chief Product and Technology Officer.

The company's platform serves a variety of clients including utilities, state and federal regulators, professional services firms, and advocacy groups. It offers several key features: a Compliance solution for streamlined FERC filings with automated XBRL tagging; an Analytics tool for visualizations and data insights; and Regulatory AI, which uses generative AI to analyze vast libraries of public regulatory documents and private, user-uploaded files to answer business-critical questions. This AI is purpose-built for energy regulation, aiming to provide more accurate and cited answers than general AI tools. The platform also supports integrations with file management systems like SharePoint, allowing clients to securely analyze their proprietary documents.

HData was part of the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator in 2021, where it secured a partnership with Alabama Power to develop its business intelligence solutions. The company has successfully raised capital through multiple funding rounds, including a $3.1 million seed round in 2021 and a $10 million Series A round in 2024, led by Buoyant Ventures. These funds are aimed at expanding the platform's capabilities to further support the energy sector's transition and address challenges like aging infrastructure and rising costs.
