The company provided a complimentary smartphone service to hotel guests, aiming to enhance their travel experience. The core of the business was offering hotel guests a dedicated smartphone with free unlimited local and international calls, internet access, and a curated city guide. This service was particularly beneficial for international travelers seeking to avoid high roaming charges.

The business model centered on partnering with hotels, who would subscribe to the service to furnish their rooms with the 'handy' devices. For the hotels, this was a value-added amenity that improved guest satisfaction and could lead to increased spending on hotel services through targeted promotions on the device. The service was available in three- to five-star hotels, with partners including prominent chains like Hyatt, Starwood, and Shangri-La. By late 2018, Handy devices were reportedly in over 600,000 hotel rooms across 82 countries.

Tink Labs secured significant funding to fuel its global expansion, raising over $170 million from investors such as Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile, Sinovation Ventures, and the founder of Meitu. At its peak, Tink Labs achieved a valuation of $1.5 billion. However, the company's trajectory shifted as the telecommunications landscape evolved. The widespread availability of affordable roaming, public Wi-Fi, and the rise of eSIM technology made the 'handy' phone's primary benefits less distinct. Faced with an unsustainable business model and high operational costs from its rapid expansion, Tink Labs ceased operations and terminated its services in most markets around August 2019.
