The company was co-founded by CEO James Everingham and officially launched in 2025. In March 2026, Guild.ai announced it had raised a combined $44 million in Seed and Series A funding, reaching a valuation of $300 million. The funding rounds were led by investors such as GV (Google Ventures), Khosla Ventures, Acrew Capital, and NFX. This capital is intended to expand the engineering and product teams to enhance the platform's capabilities.

Guild.ai's core offering addresses the challenge of managing a growing number of AI agents within organizations, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as "shadow AI". The platform provides developers with familiar tools such as typed interfaces, versioned releases, and safe execution boundaries, allowing AI agents to behave more like predictable systems rather than simple scripts. Initially, Guild AI started as an open-source toolkit for automating and optimizing machine learning experiments, offering features like automated experiment tracking, hyperparameter tuning using Bayesian optimization, and pipeline automation. The platform has since evolved to focus on the governance and orchestration of production-level AI agents. It includes a Managed Agent Center and an Agent Hub for sharing and discovering trusted agents, aiming to create a collaborative ecosystem akin to GitHub for AI agents.
