About Geotech Soil Stabilisation
Geotech Soil Stabilisation Ltd, which traded as Geobind, was a UK-based ground engineering specialist operating in the construction and engineering industry. The company was established in 2014 by entrepreneur Bill Hinge, who ran the business alongside directors Robin Apperley and Dominick Holland. Positioned as a disruptor in the soil stabilisation market, the firm offered a proprietary binder system called Geobind.
The core of the business was its patented Geobind system, a sophisticated binder designed to strengthen ground for both temporary and permanent works. This technology involved mixing the binder in-situ with existing subsoil, which then underwent a thermal reaction to bond with the soil particles. The primary benefit was the ability to reuse site-won material, including wet clay and chalk, eliminating the need to excavate and transport waste to landfills while also avoiding the importation of traditional stone aggregates like type 1. This process was significantly faster than conventional methods, with the company claiming an 80% reduction in program time and curing within 48 hours, compared to seven days for traditional lime and cement stabilisation. The business model focused on providing a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for foundation construction, serving main contractors on projects such as haul roads, car parks, retail stores, highways, and distribution centers. Clients included major retailers like Asda, Sainsbury's, and Tesco.
In April 2018, Geotech secured a major £14 million investment from Mobeus Equity Partners in exchange for a 30% stake in the business, signaling a planned expansion. However, the company later collapsed. Following the collapse, founder Bill Hinge established a new venture, Soil Science Ltd, in 2020, which has since been acquired by the GRS Group.
