About Forever

Forever is a digital preservation and storage company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It offers a suite of services designed to help individuals and families digitize, organize, and permanently store their memories. The company was founded in May 2012 by Glen Meakem, a tech entrepreneur and Harvard Business School graduate. The concept originated from Meakem's desire to create a lasting internet archive for his own family's photos and history, which he and his wife began documenting on a road trip in 1990. He sought to build a permanent digital home for memories that would not be subject to the data mining practices of other temporary cloud storage solutions.

The company publicly launched in November 2013 after securing a $9 million Series A funding round led by Meakem Becker, a venture capital firm co-founded by Glen Meakem. Meakem is a serial entrepreneur who previously founded FreeMarkets Inc., a software company he took public and later sold for $500 million. His background also includes service as a combat engineer officer in the First Gulf War.

Forever's business model is centered on a one-time payment structure for permanent cloud storage. The company guarantees that files will be preserved for the owner's lifetime plus 100 years, with the goal of lasting for many generations. To financially support this long-term commitment, a significant portion of customer payments is invested in the separately managed FOREVER Guarantee Fund. The fund, which operates similarly to a university endowment, uses its returns to cover the ongoing costs of data maintenance and migration to future file formats. Revenue is also generated from its digitization service, where customers send in physical media like VHS tapes and photos to be converted, as well as from the sale of software and printed photo products like books and calendars.

The company's offerings include the FOREVER Box for digitizing physical media, FOREVER Storage® for permanent cloud archiving, and desktop software like FOREVER Historian™ for organization and FOREVER Artisan® for creating digital scrapbooks and other projects. In 2014, Forever acquired the digital scrapbooking company Panstoria, and in 2015, it purchased Life Highlights Digital Media to expand its digitization services.
