Fireglass

Fireglass was a cybersecurity firm established in 2014 by co-founders Guy Guzner, who served as CEO, and Dan Amiga, the CTO. The company emerged from stealth mode in early 2016, securing a significant $20 million in a Series A funding round. This investment was led by prominent venture capital firms including Norwest Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Singtel Innov8. The founders brought extensive experience to the venture; Guzner previously held leadership roles at Check Point Software Technologies, and Amiga had a background in military intelligence with the Israel Defense Forces and had worked at Microsoft's technology center. Their collective expertise shaped the company's core technology.

The company's primary offering was the Fireglass Threat Isolation Platform, which addressed enterprise network security by creating an 'air gap' between users and the web. This technology treated all web content—from websites and emails to documents—as potentially malicious. Instead of running content on the user's device, the platform executed it in a remote, containerized environment and streamed a safe, visual feed to the end-user. This agentless browser isolation approach prevented threats like malware, ransomware, and phishing from ever reaching the corporate network or user endpoints. The service was designed for enterprise clients, including Fortune 500 companies, and could be deployed as a cloud service, on-premises, or in a hybrid model. By isolating threats rather than just detecting them, the platform aimed to reduce security events and the operational burden on IT security teams.

Fireglass's trajectory culminated in its acquisition by Symantec in July 2017 for an estimated $250 million. The acquisition was a strategic move by Symantec to integrate Fireglass's threat isolation capabilities into its Integrated Cyber Defense Platform, enhancing its secure web gateway and email protection services. Following the acquisition, Guzner became SVP of Web Isolation Engineering at Symantec. Both founders have since moved on to other ventures in the cybersecurity space.
